Son of a Pitch(er)…I was hoping for a hat trick. The Twinkies came off of two straight wins only to choke today against the Blue Jays, 3-8. Don’t blame our bats, though: Justin Morneau went 2-3 (when doesn’t he lately?), Joe Mauer had an RBI and Craig Monroe (who has also had a golden bat, lately) had a double that drove in a run. But, thanks to Livan Hernandez on the mound, who gave up a whopping 9 hits and 6 runs in only 4 innings, our sweet offense didn’t mean jack today. He was allowing stolen bases like he was giving out candy. OK, sorry…I shouldn’t be mean. I should be congratulating him. Hernandez now has the highest ERA on the team at 9.69! Way to go, buddy! All jokes aside, Livan is still the man; he just sucked today and frankly has sucked all spring. He has vowed, however, to get his sinker in prime form by the 31st. I’m rootin’ for you, buddy.

There was a little scare in the 5th inning today when Carlos Gomez made an amazing catch in center field. The scary part??? He face planted into the wall at the same time! Somehow the dazed and confused Gomez managed to underhand the ball to Cuddy who came rushing over from right field to help. Gomez ended up leaving the game with the wind knocked out of him, no big deal. Here is the hilarious part:

After the game this reporter was talking to Gardenhire (manager) and asked him if Gomez would have stayed in the game had this been a regular season game. Keep in mind that Gomez is from the Dominican Republic. So Gardenhire answers, “I don’t know, I went out there with the trainer to see if he was OK and I couldn’t understand a word he was saying so I said ‘Come with me.’ ” Then he went on about how he is going to have to get an interpreter during the season.

That’s pretty bad when you can’t understand the poor guy enough to know wheather he is hurt or not!!!
