Guns

Filed under: Rants and Raves — admin @ 10:58 pm

So, gun deaths on American soil are now outnumbering the deaths on 2 war fronts by hundreds of percent. Can we do anything? Do we focus on guns themselves? Or do we pump more money into mental healthcare? Or do we pump more money into background checks? Or do we try to eliminate gun lobbyists from the senate and house floors? Should the waiting period for guns be longer nationwide? What if my buddies who are avid hunters and responsible gun owners want to purchase a shotgun 2 weeks before hunting season with their hard earned money and they want to buy it online so that they can customize it to their specifications? Should they have to wait months upon months because there are citizens out there who should NOT own guns?

Does the NRA have too much power over our politicians on the right side? Are we to far over our heads with the gun problem? The United Kingdom has, on average, 10-12 handgun deaths a year. Canada typically has less. What the heck are we doing wrong?

Should the media quit spotlighting these senseless acts of violence so much so that the next mass murderer doesn’t try to “one up” the last? Are trigger locks and digital fingerprint technology on gun triggers not enough to slow down the trend? Is the black market for guns too strong to ever put restrictions on legitimate guns that are already out there?

If we somehow gain control of guns, won’t the madmen just find other ways such as homemade bombs or samurai swords from their local import store? Should we put metal detectors in all public buildings and schools and bullet proof backpacks on our kids’ shoulders? Should everyone carry a gun so that we can have a sort of marshal-law-wild-west mentality?

Maybe handgun bullets are the problem. Maybe as Chris Rock said, we should charge 10,000 dollars per bullet. Should someone start up a life insurance company specifically geared toward high school students, college students, Amish people, shopping mall frequenters and City Council meeting attendees?

Don’t you feel like we can put up the strictest of laws, rules and regulations on guns, but if someone truly wants to harm others, THEY WILL FIND THE MEANS TOO DO SO?!?!?!?!!?  I mean, where there is a strong will, there is a way, right?

Here is my solution. Quit living your lives in fear. Trust everyone and hate no one. Reach out to people and stop being selfish. Remember peoples’ birthdays and tell them you love them every once in awhile. A prayer my future mother-in-law taught me to say everyday:

“Good morning, this is God. I will be in charge of your day today and I won’t need your help. So relax and have a great day!”

Everyone thinks they have the right political answer to this problem. Not many think about the personal and spiritual answer, which I feel is far more important. None of us have any idea if we will watch the sunrise from this Earth tomorrow morning or have a much more magnificent view from Heaven. In the scheme of things, it doesn’t much matter to me. Our lifespan here on Earth is pretty short compared to eternity whether we are taken at a young age by a senseless act of violence or die of natural causes after a century of life, our purpose is simply to secure our spot upstairs. I think we all spend too much time worrying about our own safety and the safety of our loved ones and we forget that as long as we live our lives right, we will all be reunited at some beautiful golden gates in the end and welcomed by an old man who calls himself Peter and will shake the most beautiful right hand of the most beautiful person we will ever lay eyes upon.
